  (Maybole Train Station)

I still recall that station and the train

And a sadness that filled our last good-bye,

It took me forty years to feel their pain.

Far from the heather-land across the main

I settled on a shore where dreams were high,

Yet still recall that station and the train.

The longing and the sadness still remain

I struggle with a fear that will not die,

It took me forty years to feel their pain.

Now comes that parting sorrow once again

As I wrap him in my arms with a sigh;

I still recall that station and the train.

Suddenly comes the reason clear and plain

Enlightened by the voices that still cry,

It took me forty years to feel their pain.

The prodigal returns with springtime rain

To fight the tears I can no longer dry,

I still recall that station and the train,

It took me forty years to feel their pain.
