Dreadful weather
at the weekend meant a change to arrangements for switching
on Maybole’s Christmas Lights. The Town Hall has always been
held in reserve, and on Saturday all the entertainment
before the switch in was moved inside. Magic Malky got the
fun going at 3pm and from then on there was plenty of
seasonal music and dance to keep everyone happy.
The entertainment was provided by
provided by Chikaz; Cairn Primary choir; Maybole Majorettes;
Carrick Academy choir and pipers; St Cuthbert’s Primary
choir; Michael Andrew; Gardenrose Primary choir; and Ian
Jack. At 5.30pm, everyone made their way outside as Maybole
Pipe Band marched from the library to the Town Hall followed
by Santa and his friends. These included Ryan Speirs and
Jacqui Gibson, current Gala King and Queen of Carrick,
Provost Winifred Sloan, Adam Ingram MSP and local
councillors Mairi Low and Sandra Goldie.
Provost Sloan welcomed everyone and
thanked all those who had helped in any way to put on such a
great event. She thanked everyone who had taken part in the
entertainment as well as Strathclyde Police, John Jamieson,
GAB sound engineers, Bobby Borland of South Ayrshire
Council, Maybole Community Association, David Mc Kay
(Maybole Butcher) and Eddie Glass.
Then it was time to count down for the
big switch on which this year had a novel twist. Earlier the
Wizard had gathered everyone’s wishes into his crystal which
was then used to trigger the switch on. Afterwards there was
a disco for under 12s back inside the hall. Despite the
changes, it really was another very successful switch on. |
