Remembrance Sunday in Maybole began with an ecumenical service in the Town Hall conducted by Rev Jim Guthrie and Rev Nancy Jackson. During the first hymn, the flags of the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland were accepted from standard bearers Stephen Sinclair and Army cadet Calum MacDonald. Readers were Carrick Academy captains Abigail McGradey and Andrew McColm

Following the service, Maybole Pipe Band led the parade to the war memorial for the traditional two minute silence and a wreath laying service led by Rev Guthrie. Piper Andrew Fulton played the lament and Alex Kelly recited Binyon’s Lines and the Kohima Epitaph.

Poppy wreaths were laid on behalf of many local organisations including the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, Serving Personnel, Scottish Parliament, UK parliament, South Ayrshire Council, Maybole Community Council, Maybole Community Association, Police Scotland, Maybole Council of Churches, Friends and Families, Maybole                Town Twinning Association, Army Cadets, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Carrick Academy, Masonic Lodges, Apprentice Boys of Derry, Carrick Round Table and local emergency services. Also attending the service and taking part in the parade were representatives from local primary schools.

After the service, the pipe band led the parade back to the Town Hall with the salute being taken at the golf course’s 9th tee. It was easily the worst weather for many years and a real struggle to hold on to flags and wreaths in the face of swirling winds and driving rain.
