July/August - 2000 WEB-SITE RELEASE from

Rev Richard MARTIN - Minister

Thereís no such thing as a free lunch, they say.

Are you cynical about freebies?

Have you been caught by freebies enticing you to buy something?

Believe me, Christians get caught in just the same way. Yet they still want to talk about Godís Free Gift - or free gifts!

Thatís because the Bible uses the Ďfree giftí language.

For example, there is: Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9.15). The writer refers to Godís gift of His Son. Or take: the (free) gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6.23). Take the one and the other is yours, automatically. Both come in the one offer.

The catch? Well, the second quote actually says:

the wages of sin is death, but the(free) gift of God is eternal life

in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In order to receive the gift we must confess our sins,

and ask Godís forgiveness in Jesus Name.
