SAYING GOOD-BYE

A friend in Belgium, whose church had just been visited by a team of Canadians, wrote: They were a great help . . . everyone found saying goodbye so difficult.  You know that feeling – especially if you may never meet the new friends again.

We’ve just said good-bye to an old friend.  She moved to Maybole in the 1950s and became a member of our church.  She was well known for her services to the town and its people.  It was not easy to say good-bye.

Preparing  for  the  funeral  service,  I  was  struck  again by Paul’s  words: . . . we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4¹³     

Of course, the process of dying may or may not be easy, but those who believe in Jesus Christ can face death in that confidence.  That is why Paul added: We believe that Jesus died & rose again & so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.     1 Thessalonians 4¹⁴

Saying Good-Bye to one

who trusted Jesus for salvation makes me ask:

Do I Face Death With The Confidence & Hope Paul Declares?
