Sergeant Alexander McIntyre

Sergeant Alexander McIntyre was born in Maybole and is the grandfather of Evelyn Shields who contributed these items to honour one of Maybole's war heroes.

"While his battery was violently bombarded by toxic missiles, he was extremely calm and brave : regardless of danger and with a great sense of duty he went on shooting his cannon"
General Degoutte Commander of the VIth Army  23 November 1918.

I was surfing the Internet and came across this site and I was amazed to see that you had my Grandfather on it. I have a copy of the citation that is on here, my grandfather – was a lovely man although I can only remember him vaguely. It is really great to see that his memory is living on. I know my father sill comes out with snippets of what his father did during the war. I have been to Maybole many times and I think that the town is lovely; the people there are so friendly and warm. Any way it is so nice to see part of my family history on the Internet. I will keep looking now I have found it. Yours, Irene Greening (nee McIntyre) March 2004
