  • Age 42, married with one son aged 12.
  • Studied sculpture at Glasgow School of Art, post graduate diploma in Art Therapy at Goldsmith's College, London. Qualified as a Social Worker at Glasgow University, and undertook a Certificate in Management (Voluntary Sector) at Glasgow Caledonian University.
  • Previously employed as Social Worker and Community I.T. Worker.
    6 years as Principal Officer of Who Cares? Scotland, an organisation advocating on behalf of young people in care.
  • Member of TGWU (ACTS)

  • Member of Labour's Scottish Executive Committee since 1996
  • Member of Labour's National Executive Committee since 1998
  • Vice Chair of South of Scotland Euro CLP
  • Secretary of CWS Scottish Co-op Ayrshire Divisional Committee, and Vice Chair of Scottish Co-operative Party.
