The next meeting of Maybole Historical Society will be on Monday 2nd March at 7.30 pm in the Castle. Poster

The speaker will be James Brown, a researcher for the Heritage Lottery-funded Crucial Carrick Project for Carrick Community Councils’ Forum, who  will talk on some of the fascinating discoveries he has made in the course of his interviews with Carrick people. One of his key tasks has been to find out what is important to local people in the history, geology, flora and fauna of Carrick.

There have been some surprising discoveries such as the 92-year old fossil hunter from Girvan, that Ailsa Craig was never a volcano and the tale of the Greek and Latin scholars in Colmonell who visited each others houses on alternate week-ends. When in the Latin scholar’s house, they both spoke Greek and when in the Greek scholar’s house, they both spoke Latin!

James will be inviting members of the audience to come forward with their favourite stories, some of which may be included in a book which will be one of the main outcomes of the Crucial Carrick Project.

Members free, visitors £2 . All welcome.
