The
late
Alan Murray has been chosen as the 2015 winner of the Matt
Dunnachie Award and his wife Kathleen accepted the trophy from
Brian Connolly, convener of Carrick Sports Club, in the Carrick
Centre recently.
The family of the late Matt
Dunnachie donated a silver trophy to Carrick Sports Club in 2007
and Mr Connolly told staff and volunteers at the Carrick Centre,
“This trophy is awarded on an annual basis to an individual or
organisation who has contributed to life in the town of Maybole
over the years. “It is the equivalent of the town’s Citizen of
the Year Award and this is the first time the Award has been
made posthumously. He briefly outlined Alan’s involvement in the
town over many years and commented on his work even when he was
ill.
“This year the award goes to Alan
Murray,” he continued, “who spent many years involved with
various organisations in the town; there are many groups in
Maybole and the surrounding villages who have cause to thank him
for what he did. “This award is to say ‘thank you’ to Alan, as
well as Kathleen and their family, from the people of Maybole.”
He then presented the trophy to
Mrs Murray who thanked him and added that Alan had never looked
for such recognition. “He just loved the town,” she said. Bill
McCubbin, chair of the committee which selects the awardee,
presented Mrs Murray with a framed certificate.
