Maybole Church gutted by fire
during early morning blaze . On Wednesday July 15, fire crews
hours spent hours fighting battling to bring the blaze under
control. Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving
a call from a concerned member of the public at 6.15am. The
landmark building, which sits on the A77 running through the
town, was well alight by the time they arrived. The church was
built in 1808 and has lain empty for 10 years since the last
service was performed in August 2005. Since then it has fallen
into a state of disrepair, and has been a target for vandals.
Emergency services said it was too early to comment on the cause
of the blaze, but confirmed no-one has been injured.
