Maybole’s Scott Barrie, a
19-year-old piper with the Grade 1 Greater Glasgow Police
Scotland Pipe Band, was the winner of the 2015 Pipe Idol
championship at the annual Piping Live week in Glasgow. The
competition this year consisted of 16 of the best young pipers
from Canada, Australia, Ireland and Scotland

March, Strathspey & Reel, a Hornpipe & Jig and a medley of their
own choosing. The final was judged by four judges in the
audience, unannounced to the players and the event was streamed
live on Piping Live’s channel, and will be shown on BBC Alba at
a later date.
For his efforts, Scott received a
set of top-of-the-range Fred Morrison smallpipes valued at more
than £2,000. Scott, who is a special constable with Police
Scotland is starting an apprenticeship with G.E. Caledonian at
the end of the month and started his piping career with Maybole
