A
feasibility study to explore the viability of a
number of proposed uses for the Castle is being
carried out by Maybole Castle Community Trust. This
builds on earlier public consultation undertaken by
the Trust which suggested that the Castle should
accommodate a mix of both commercial and community
uses to provide it with a viable and secure future.
Strathclyde Building Preservation Trust has been
commissioned as project co-coordinator and a
professional team is investigating the viability of
reusing the Castle, to produce proposals and an
outline business plan. |

Initial community suggestions
for the Castle's use have included a Heritage Centre, Family
History Research, Arts & Crafts, Offices, Community
Facilities, Cafe and Tourist Information. As part of the
commission, a public consultation workshop is being held
with residents, local businesses, community group
representatives and agencies. Everyone who is interested is
invited to this Options Appraisal Workshop which will be
held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 12 January 2010 in the Lesser Town
Hall.
The workshop will review
progress, present the results of the recently completed
community and youth surveys, confirm the results of building
and structural inspections, establish the key challenges and
begin to identify viable uses for Maybole Castle. The
workshop will help to shape the final stage of the
commission. The Workshop is programmed to last around two
hours and tea/coffee will be served.
