Glorious sunshine beat
down on the congregation for last Sunday’s Ecumenical
Service, in the ruins of Crossraguel Abbey, to mark the
beginning of Maybole Gala Week.
During the service around
65 people of all ages sang hymns and heard scripture
readings and prayers. Members from the different Christian
churches in Maybole chose the hymns for the service and
explained what the hymn they had picked means to them.
The event has been running
for the last eight years and is organised by Maybole Council
of Churches in co-operation with the Community Association.
Peter Mason, Chair of the Community Association, encouraged
locals to take part in the Gala Week events, and Gala King
and Queen Elect Gregor Connolly and Robin Stevenson held the
crowns with which they formally became King and Queen at the
Gala celebrations on Gala Day. South Ayrshire Council’s
Provost, Winifred Sloan, joined also attended the service.
