The photo on the left is of Anne McClymont --Jane Peden McCances' mother.  She was the wife of David Peden with cane and chops in the photo above. On the right is a picture of William McCance's parents -  James McCance and Margaret Bailie. 

These photos were sent to us by Margaret Harding Davis of Ashaway, RI, USA who is shown in the picture below on a visit to Maybole in 1992 on High Street near the Town Hall. Click on the images to view them full size.

My mother Margaret McCance (left) was born in Maybole Scotland in 1898. Her father was William McCance and her mother was Jane Peden McCance. Jane was the daughter of David Peden and Annie McClymont of Maybole. My gggrandparents were David Peden and Margaret Galloway of Wigston, on Jane's side. They moved from Wigston to Maybole. My grandfather's parents were James McCance and Margaret Balie, both from Maybole.  My mother's first cousin, William McCance is a well known artist whose works were shown several years ago at the Royal Museum of Modern art in Edinburgh.

I visited Maybole in 1992 and found all of Scotland lovely. Maybole was of great interest to me because John Knox street was where my mother was born.  When Mom was about 6 or 7 I think that they moved to Alloway. This photo of her (on the left) was taken just after she arrived in Canada from Scotland. She was about 18 or younger.  She traveled on board the ship from Scotland all by her self.  On the way she contacted the flu and was very ill for almost the whole trip. What a brave young lady my Mom was.I know the David Peden family is well recorded for I keep in touch with Bud Jackson and he has done a marvelous job in recording their genealogy.
