The Maybole Castle. Possibly one of the oldest photographs of the town. Taken around 1860 it shows the Castle and the Old Smithy on the corner of New Yards and Barns Road, Formerly called Castle Brae. This picture was taken before the new road ( St. Cuthberts Road) was formed. The castle image on this site was scanned from the original photograph. Heather Wotherspoon, a life long resident of Maybole, has very generously given permission for display of these images on this site. Because of the excellent quality and historic value of this image, several file sizes and formats are available by selecting from the list below.
